I'm not really talented...

Last night I was so bored that I gave myself a faux french manicure. My mother-in-law gave me a nail kit for Christmas (oh yeah, and a ticket to see Wicked!) among other things. My nails actually turned out really pretty, if you don't look too closely. Then today after lunch I washed about a week's worth of dishes and all my work went down the drain. It's a shame. hey that rhymes. Taylor and I gave our introductory talks in church today and go figure I decided to cry in front of a bunch of people. Kinda embarrassing, although Taylor says it sounded sincere so I'm going with that.

Christmas morning Taylor and I slept in. I snuck out of bed and blasted Christmas music to entice him to wake up. It worked. We braved the avalanche-laden streets and parked our highcentered car so awkwardly the snow plows probably hated us. At my parent's, we ate a little, opened a few presents, Megan and Curtis' family came up and we played catch phrase for a solid hour. Finally, around 9:00 p.m. we all gathered around and exchanged secret santa gifts. Then Taylor and I went back home and watched Ratatoullie. Not bad for a first Christmas. If we could have taken about 5 hours of waiting out, it would have been SwEeT!!

oh yeah, a little tidbit of important information, I've packed on about 5 pounds. And wouldn't you know where it all went to? My bum and face. New Year's resolution: ease up on the pistachios.

wedding announcement

I have a few spare moments to share the amazing story of how Tiggitytay and I met. One night in September we carpooled as strangers coerced into instant friends up to a nook in the mountains just south of here. I was impressed with his fire-making skills so I sat by him around the glowing blaze that swathed our cold little bodies. We caught eyes a few times before I drifted off to sleep. The next morning I quietly rolled up my belongings and attempted to escape without waking the others. I sleepily rode the trails home only accompanied by the sounds of unwelcome rain drops, Lori McKenna, and an arching formation of colored prisms nestled comfortably between the stretch of land that separated two worlds that were soon to become as one, realizing I missed him already.

Back on dry land, we contacted each other simultaneously until we decided we both liked shrimp enough to enjoy eating it together. And it was successful. And delicious. A happy stomach equals a happy Vanessa and he continued to keep me that way, via food, among other things. I must have been starving when we met. Food, laughter, one more thing.....Love? Yes.

He moved to Utah to work full-time for the longest six months of my life. I remember counting down the days until I'd see him next; just knowing he'd be home in a month gave me great excitement and I think that's when I knew what I had and I decided to try not to kiss him until he proposed to me. That didn't work. With other forms of gentl persuasion, when he eventually came home in October, we cemented our plans to marry. I requested that he not propose, not publicly at least. He took me to Bartz Field on a Friday night so the dog could get her 30 mins of aerobics in for the day. I spent a huge chunk of my summer at Bartz field, alone, but I never would have imagined it would impact me beyond its original utilization involving dogs, not proposals. I should have known what was coming, since he combed his hair and wore cologne. He was nearly racing me to the top of the field and when I finally caught up, I turned away so that he didn't see my heavy breathing. Once I turned back around, there he was on one knee with a half smile, half serious look on his face. I think he said something ".....make me the happiest man alive.." or something. I'm pretty emotional, and broke down in tears. I said YES since he smelled so good. Little did I know that I would be marrying a man who makes awesome tacos and loves candy as much as I do.

pretty boy Gavy

I seriously love this kid.

handsome little devil.

i's been tagged ya'll

I've been tagged and supposed to tell 6 things that people might not know about me.

1. I'm a foodie, first and foremost. The kitchen is my favorite room in the house. I love eating at fancy restaurants. I love watching the Food Network, especially Barefoot Contessa and Rachael Ray. My only fear, however, is cooking steak. Oh, and I detest stroganoff. yuck!

2. I'm a DIY-er*. I always at least attempt to do things myself before asking a professional. For example: cutting my hair (bad idea), manicures, pedicures, massages (perfect if there's someone under 50 lbs nearby who doesn't mind sitting/walking on my back. I call it good when they start to jump and land on my head), fixing my rickety bike (the tires are too wide for my bike and the studs were rubbing on just one side, so I cut them off), group therapy (lunch on the patio at a local hangout), financial planning (live at home, eat parent's food), cueing music for a dance (it only takes 50 tries and voila!), getting prescriptions (there's perks to having a friend with a psychiatrist for a dad), etc. Why? no idea. Must be the one frugal bone in me. haha.
(*could be an understatement.)

3. If I wasn't on track with the dietetics program or if I was already graduated from college, I'd consider going into fashion merchandising. My dream job, next to being a registered dietician, is to work for Anthropologie or a similar boutique that encompasses all the aspects of my aesthetic in fashion and interior design.

4. I love rainy days, probably because they fall in the happy medium of winter and summer.

5. I secretly love R&B; and jazz; and The Beach Boys...and Celine Dion.

6. Last, but not least, I get zoo-sick. Kind of like seasick or carsick. You know that feeling that creeps in your stomach at the thought of rocking back and forth in the middle of the ocean?? That's what I get when I think of two rhinosaurases smelling each other's bums.

There ya have it-- 6 things you never knew about Vantini.
